Turmeric: Spice and Anti-Inflammatory Supplement

What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is actually a family of plants. But usually, when using the term “curcuma” it is to refer to curcuma longa, curcuma domestica, saffron, turmeric, saffron or saffron. It should not be confused with saffron as they are very different. The spice and turmeric
supplements are obtained from the plant’s root. fish dishes, as it masks their more intense flavor. It gives a pleasant color to sauces, soups and rice dishes. It is used by the food industry as a colorant and its aroma is also used in perfumes.

The effects of turmeric are mainly due to its curcumin content. The use of turmeric brings benefits at several levels:

Anti-inflammatory capacity
Unlike Harpagophytum , which has a more pronounced effect at the osteoarticular level, curcuma has a broader capacity. Curcumin influences inflammation pathways by acting on inflammatory mediators such as TNF-alpha. There are numerous studies that demonstrate a decrease in inflammation and consequent benefit in cases of rheumatoid arthritis , osteoarthritis , Alzheimer’s , inflammation of the airways , diabetes , modulation of inflammation in adipose tissue .

is still discussed, the role that curcuma may have in the prevention of inflammatory diseases and not only in reducing inflammation already installed.

Other effects:
There are studies that refer to its ability to inhibit cancer cells and its antioxidant effect is undeniable .

Curcuma is also of interest in liver recovery and relief from stomach pains.
In paste form it can help the skin to regenerate better.

Curcumin supplementation may influence the effect of anti-clotting medication/supplementation (warfarin, aspirin, ginseng , garlic, ginkgo biloba) and anti-inflammatory medication.

Que dosagens?
– There are no known adverse effects other than digestive discomfort in cases of excessive dosage;

– There is no recommended dose, but as a supplement, 500mg of curcumin, 2 to 4 times a day, has already demonstrated an anti-inflammatory and digestive relief effect;

– Whenever you can, if you like the aroma and flavor, use turmeric in the preparation of your meals or make infusions.

Spices and aromatic herbs are fantastic and we must take advantage of the benefits that they can bring us in our daily use. In some situations supplementation may be warranted for a more marked effect. Natural anti-inflammatories are always a way to escape the side effects of anti-inflammatory medication.
